Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Growing up in a small farm town in Michigan, Dr. Cox always had a passion for community service and care. He watched his mom, who was a nurse, care for their neighbors and friends in the community, and he always looked up to that. Fast forward to his time at Western Michigan University, he had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Panama with a pediatric dentist providing care to children in orphanages. This trip sparked his love for working with the pediatric population and propelled him to volunteer at St. Jude Children’s Hospital and become a pediatric dentist himself!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Cox attended Western Michigan University for his undergraduate studies before going to the SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While there, he also completed his pediatric dentistry residency and even served as Chief Resident. After his residency, Dr. Cox worked at Desert Ridge Pediatric Dentistry and earned his sedation dentistry certification.

As a firm believer in using the latest science-backed treatments and techniques, Dr. Cox remains an active member of several professional organizations to stay abreast of the advancements in his field. These include:

• Arizona Dental Association
• American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
• Spear Education

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Whenever Dr. Cox isn’t at the office, you can find him spending time with his two older brothers and younger sister or hiking, working out, traveling, and going to live music events. An interesting fact about Dr. Cox is that he was stung by a jellyfish in Mexico!
