Why Did You Decide to Become an Orthodontist?

Dr. Jon Bolesta always knew he wanted to have a career where he could help people. One day, during a high school career assignment, he ended up shadowing a dentist to see what the job was like. He loved seeing the impact the dentist had in the lives of his patients and in the community. From that point on, he knew that dentistry, and then later orthodontics, was the perfect fit for him.

What Inspired You to Open Shine?

As soon as he learned that working for a dental company wasn’t for him, Dr. Jon Bolesta was inspired to create a place where kids would have fun at the dentist, improve their health, and create healthy lifelong habits. He wanted his patients to have good memories of the dental office, and he wanted parents to experience that peace as well! That’s when he decided to open Shine. He wanted to use the office to shine the light of Jesus based on the office’s theme Bible verse, Matthew 5:16.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Jon Bolesta completed his undergraduate studies in 2003 at Oregon State University, dental school in 2005 at Oregon Health Sciences University, and his orthodontic residency at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2007. While he has been practicing for over 20 years, he has spent most of his career in Glendale at his family-owned and locally operated practice, Shine.

Dr. Jon Bolesta is incredibly passionate about sharing his skills and supporting communities in need by going on dental missions in Central America. He also enjoys doing orthodontic education focused on smile enhancement. Dr. Jon Bolesta remains an active member of several professional organizations as well, including the American Academy of Orthodontists.

Outside of the Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Whenever Dr. Jon Bolesta isn’t at the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Amie, and their five children. He also loves to go mountain biking and attend his children’s sporting activities!
